Walking in Munnar

While Munnar town is built-up and busy, it`s easy to find lovely scenic spots within a short drive from Munnar. We have identified some such scenic spots that will fit in nicely for a ramble in the hills. We operate our own campsites at various locations in and around Munnar. A walk in these hills can be spread over many days and some areas are so remote that it is necessary to stay in temporary camps. In addition to the various gueshouses/forest lodges we have also identified campsites and depending on the duration of the walk and weather conditions we choose accordingly. Munnar is famous not only for its scenic beauty and high mountain peaks but also for the tea grown in these hills. For ages colonial planters has tried growing various produce before deciding that tea was best suited for this rugged terrain. Tea here is harvested throughout the year and because of the altitude the tea produced here is also considered one of the best in India. A visit to the factory will give you an insight into tea production from the time leaf arrives at the from the field to the factory until the finished product leaves the factory. Long Treks - Meeshapulimalai Trek

The trek up Meeshapulimalai is much sought after by people looking for a long trek in Munnar especially as Anaimudi, the highest peak in South India is closed to general public for any activities. At a height of 2,640 meters the Meeshapulimalai Peak is indeed a spectacular peak and the vistas from the top are breathtaking! Once you get nearer the top you truly feel on top of the world with clouds swirling around the peaks below! There used to be 2 ways to access the peak. The hills are home to a few endemic and a wide variety of birdlife. The Nature Walk with our naturalist will truly be a rewarding experience! It is advisable to start the walk as early as you can so you stant a good chance to see most birds that has made these hills their home! The walk starts from the Camp after a short briefing over hot tea or coffee. You will be given checklists of the both the common and endemic birds of the area before you start out so you have your own record to take back of the beautiful birds that see on the walk.
